Choosing Your Scent: Essential Oils, Fine Fragrance Oils & Felt Grape Diffusers

Washpool has always been known for essential oils, natural ingredients, and a considered approach to skin, body and home products.

So when we decided to introduce a fine fragrance oil range, we knew it deserved a little explanation.

For us, this was not about replacing essential oils or moving away from what Washpool is known for. It was about giving customers another way to choose scent — especially when they are looking for fragrance styles that cannot always be created with essential oils alone.

Some customers love pure botanical blends. Others are drawn to sparkling fruit, soft florals, warm caramel, rich berries or tropical scent profiles. Both preferences are valid, and both can sit comfortably within a thoughtful home fragrance range.

That is where our fine fragrance oils and felt grape diffusers began.

Essential oils and fine fragrance oils: what is the difference?

Essential oils are aromatic oils extracted from plants. At Washpool, our essential oil blends are created using pure essential oils and are designed for aromatic use in suitable diffusers and oil burners.

They suit customers who enjoy botanical scent profiles such as citrus, floral, woody, herbal, resinous or grounded aromas.

Fine fragrance oils are different. They allow us to create a wider variety of scent profiles, including fragrance styles that are not possible with essential oils alone. This includes brighter fruits, soft perfume-like florals, gourmand notes, berry blends and tropical fragrances.

Fine fragrance oils are still used thoughtfully, but they are not essential oils. They are created for fragrance use, not for skincare or direct application to the body.

Why we introduced fine fragrance oils

The idea started with something we noticed close to home.

Some of our staff’s children were heading out and buying candles and fragrance products that were not ours. Not because they did not love Washpool, but because they were looking for scent profiles we simply could not create with essential oils alone.

It also made us realise that there were customers coming into the store who were drawn to more contemporary fragrance styles, but we did not quite have the right scent range for them yet.

So we asked ourselves a simple question:

Could we create a fragrance range that still felt considered, practical and recognisably Washpool, while giving customers more choice?

Our fine fragrance oils are the result.

They sit beside our essential oil blends, giving customers another way to choose the kind of scent they love.

Why felt grape diffusers?

Once we created the oils, we wanted a simple, reusable way to enjoy them.

We also wanted the diffuser itself to feel connected to our region.

Washpool is based in Stanthorpe, Queensland, in the heart of the Granite Belt. The region is known for its wine country, so the idea of a felt grape diffuser felt like a natural fit — practical, textural, and gently connected to where we live.

Our felt grape diffusers are designed for small-space fragrance use. They can be used in places such as:

• cars
• wardrobes
• bathrooms
• offices
• caravans
• other small everyday spaces

They do not need plugs, batteries, reeds or open liquid containers. The wool felt absorbs the oil and slowly releases aroma as the oil evaporates.

How to use a felt grape diffuser

Using a felt grape diffuser is simple.

Add a few drops of your chosen essential oil or suitable fragrance oil directly to the felt. Allow the oil to absorb before hanging the diffuser in your chosen space.

Refresh with more oil when the aroma begins to fade.

The strength and length of the scent will depend on the oil used, the number of drops added, airflow, temperature and the size of the space.

Important car and surface care

When using a felt diffuser in the car, always hang it freely.

The diffuser should not touch dashboards, screens, trims, vents, seats, seatbelts or other car surfaces. Oils may mark, stain or damage surfaces, especially plastic, leather, fabric, painted, polished or delicate finishes.

The same care applies in other spaces. Avoid direct contact with clothing, linen, timber, stone, painted surfaces, polished surfaces or delicate materials.

A simple rule is best:

Add the oil, let it absorb, then hang the diffuser freely where it will not touch surrounding surfaces.

Which oil should I choose?

Choose a Washpool essential oil blend if you enjoy pure botanical aromas.

Essential oil blends are a good option if you like scent profiles such as:

• soft citrus
• floral blends
• woody aromas
• herbal notes
• grounded or resinous blends

Choose a fine fragrance oil if you want a wider scent wardrobe.

Fine fragrance oils are a good option if you enjoy scent profiles such as:

• sparkling fruits
• soft florals
• warm caramel
• rich berries
• tropical blends
• more contemporary fragrance styles

Neither option needs to be better than the other. They simply offer different ways to enjoy scent.

Can I use both essential oils and fine fragrance oils with the same felt grape diffuser?

Yes, but we recommend keeping scent families in mind.

Because felt absorbs oil, some scent may remain in the diffuser after use. If you move between very different scent styles, the aromas may overlap.

For the cleanest scent experience, you may prefer to use one felt grape diffuser for essential oil blends and another for fine fragrance oils, or keep one grape for your favourite scent family.

For example:

• one grape for citrus and fresh blends
• one grape for warm or gourmand scents
• one grape for soft floral fragrances
• one grape for car use

This is not essential, but it can help keep each scent clearer.

Where should I use a felt grape diffuser?

Felt grape diffusers are best suited to small spaces.

They work well in places where you want a light, simple aroma rather than a strong room-filling fragrance.

Good use locations include:

• car mirrors, when hanging freely

• wardrobes, away from clothing contact

• bathrooms

• office nooks

• caravans

• small entry spaces

• guest spaces

For larger rooms, an ultrasonic diffuser, reed diffuser or candle may be a better choice depending on the fragrance experience you prefer.

A simple way to choose

If you are choosing for the first time, start with three questions.

1. Where will I use it?

For the car, wardrobe, bathroom or office, a felt grape diffuser is a practical small-space option.

2. What kind of scent do I like?

Choose essential oils if you prefer botanical scent profiles.

Choose fine fragrance oils if you want broader fragrance styles, including fruit, gourmand, berry, tropical or perfume-like scents.

3. Do I want a ready-to-use pairing?

If you want the easiest starting point, choose a felt grape diffuser and oil bundle. This gives you both the reusable felt diffuser and a matching oil in one simple pairing.

Introducing fine fragrance oils does not change our love for essential oils.

Essential oils remain an important part of Washpool, and many customers will continue to choose them for their botanical character and familiar scent profiles.

Fine fragrance oils simply give customers another option.
